Apart from the fabulous images, I really found myself trying to answer some of the questions. Now that really makes for a great post! Have a lovely week xo
What a fun post! I have so many striped tops of different colours(though not one is black and white!) plus one navy and white striped dress. I don't think stripes ever look dated and your photos prove the point.
Bonjour from New York (a nice change from Seattle!) I wrote a similar post last year, and I remember that story was one of the most fun to research. There were so many pics of celebrities wearing "une marinière" out there in cyberspace. That made the selection process tricky. I like the photos you picked, especially that darling little girl :-) Well done. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle - exceptionally French Girl in New York City for a few days :-)
So many great pictures.
Jane Birkin with her Serge " has an intense feeling in it".
Hello Tish
A beautiful uplifing post on this sunny and tranquil Florida morning, where the ocean is like glass and the stripes would be most fitting.
Have a beautiful week and wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Do you celebrate?

I just found a green and black striped Chicos blouse at a thrift shop...you just inspired me to wear it. Loved how thorough this post is!
Oh, this deserves a standing ovation! Wonderful pictures, and the poem put a smile on my face. (And you know how much I love my stripes.)
Oh what a wonderful collection of photographs! I love every single one of them, and the stripes too. xx's
What fun !
I love seeing the stripes worn with such savvy elegance.
Great photos...you could do an entire book on the subject.
Always and forever! They do look best on average to small busts, though. (But not necessary to be thin.) Taylor, one of the most beautiful women of her time, does not suit it and vice versa.
Love this post! And oh, how I love my striped tops... to the point that you made me realize they've become quite worn out. Time for some new!
Duchesse- your post made me realize why I have such stripe-love: my small bust and shoulders look best with the added 'umph' of stripes.
Love love love every bit of this photo essay!
I was recently asked what I want for a holiday gift. I think the answer will be - something with stripes!
Being petite and busty, I'm not great with horizontal stripes on top... sadly... Maybe a scarf with stripes or some hot heels?
Fantastic post with exquisite image selection. Always have la mariniere (like the one on Audrey Tautou) for summer.
Love stripes myself; am wearing them now. You know, of course, that the photo you have labeled Duke and Duchess of Windsor is actually a shot of James D'Arcy and Andrea Riseborough as the Duke and Duchess. Jo @ Let's Face the Music
What a wonderful pairing of verse and images. Loved this post!
Wooo Marsi. A fun and wonderful post. Love it. Stripes on everyone looks wonderful. Worn with verve and style. Fun to see the cat in stripes, very stylish...meow!
Awww, thank you! I was swept away.
I'm so glad that I grabbed my stripped sweater at the last possible moment for my Thanksgiving
holiday.
With all due respect. All, all the
women look chic and fabulous.
Elizabeth included. Let's let everyone into the tent.
Brilliant essay.

Thank you so much.
What a fun post! Now I know what I'm going to wear tomorrow.
Love the stripes! I have stripes in grey marle and white, red and white and one very old french navy and white! They will remain in my wardrobe until my wardrobe is no more!! Loved the pics - thanks Tish!
Hi Tish. I'm a big fan of the "zebra" look - you've put together some truly iconic images in this post.
Best wishes, Alex

I love the b/w photos best, no matter the subject. They hint at the elusive, something 4 color photos cannot.
