How Is It Possible?

It's been four years since I started A Femme d'Un Certain Age.

It seems like yesterday in many ways, but it takes time to build a blog and who knew? I wasn't sure anyone would be interested in what I had to say. But you were!

It didn't take long for me to realize how lucky I am and how extraordinarily grateful I am to you.

Thank you for visiting, commenting, caring.

You have no idea how many of my long-held dreams have come true because of you.

Merci, merci, merci.

Next week you will have lovely surprises and by the end of the month, if not before, I shall be writing every day again. I have just a few more days of chapter editing and then that's all she wrote. . .

Je vous embrasse.

Congratulations!
I've been an avid reader for about 18 months and have enjoyed every post. I love getting an American-French view of the world and compare it to the way I see things in Australia.
Thanks you for brightening my days!

Congratulations Tish. I've been reading your blog almost since the beginning. You've become a tremendous success and we've savored every word, all of us wanting to have the French look and attitude. Thanks to you I must have succeeded on some level. When I dressed for a party the other night my husband commended, "you look like a French lady." Oui et merci Tish!

Happy blog anniversary and may you have many, many more. I can't wait for your book. I hope it will be available in the US.

Well, congratulations, Tish. I read your blog regularly (although, oddly enough, I never feel compelled to respond to your postings.....an inexplicable state-of-things to chatty-me, although probably a fortunate one for your blog).

Where on your blog can I read about your forthcoming book?

A couple of publishers (and two prominent book designers) were here for dinner two nights ago, and the talk turned (I should emphasize that I used to be in the marketing-end of the business, myself) to the comparative ease, in these days of blogging, to "Get the book OUT THERE". that's always the Big Question in the business.

The conversation had started when one of them saw Vicki Archer's two, eye-catchingly produced (i.e., these are not cheaply produced, by any standard) books. I also got down Carla Coulson's "Italian Joy", and I spent a good ten minutes explaining that, insofar as I knew, all three books were selling well and, in fact, steadily gaining readers/buyers several years after the initial publication.....courtesy of their author's active participation in the blogosphere rather than the grimly traditional publication marketing-rituals.

Two of the most interesting reactions were "Oh...blogging's done for books what DVD's have done for movies....you don't have to stake everything on that Big Opening Weekend and one big advertising campaign." and "They've cracked the hardest nut...the entire publicity department of Random House can't BRING the readers in. These women are making their own audience."

It IS true, of course. My impression is that the readers of books such as Coulson's and Archer's (or Dominique Browning's) don't feel that they're buying something so much as PARTICIPATING in something....and that's all because the authors have, quite willingly and enjoyably, taken matters into their own hands...and, by extension, placed them into the hands of readers who wouldn't necessarily pay attention to expensive ad campaigns in the New York Review of Books or far-flung (and equally expensive) book tours.

In any case, congratulations and good luck to you....and how do I find out about this upcoming book of yours.
Sincerely,

David Terry

Oh, Congratulations on your anniversary! Your blog is at the top of my favorites since you skillfully, amusingly combine two of my loves: style and France. I enjoy your perspective on all things 'of a certain age' and cannot wait for your book to come out. Best of luck with it!

You already know what a huge fan I am of your Blog, even though I seldom leave a comment. And that is because there is usually nothing left to say after your wonderful readers have left their bons mots.

Joyeux anniversaire! I hope there will be many, many more blogger years ahead of you.

You have been a total inspiration to me, and our wonderful chats "hors blog" have been even more delicious.

Can't wait for the book, ma chère.

Merci beaucoup for all you do.
