Mother of the Betrothed In Paris

Welcome to the first of a month-long series dedicated to dressing the Mother-of-the-Bride (the Mother-of-the-Groom is a major player as well). It seems only appropriate to think about her/their special role and dress them accordingly.

Once again I've turned to my great pal and creator of the brilliant Vivienne Files to pull together wardrobes that will have all eyes focused on the MOB -- after the bride of course. But there is after all an Academy Award for best supporting actress. That's how I envision the second roles.

To stay on message in this space only one rule applies: all are destination weddings. All are in France.

You are all invited to the ceremonies. . .

One of the most difficult outfits to find...myself recently a MOB. Everything too young or too old...when I did find a style I liked, it was in black. I was definitely not wearing black to my daughter's wedding!
Took my style cue from Mrs Middleton. Ours was an early autumn wedding in Australia, weather unpredictable. Eventually found my coat and dress.

I'll be MOB September 1st. Found my dress 6 months ago. Navy lace by Erdem, and I love it! 3/4 sleeves too.
Looking forward to this series. Love thhe coat, but in Los Angeles, no need unfortunately.

Aw, Kathy, and I was thinking of you for this series. I should have known you would have been prepared well in advance and I think I know the dress. It is drop dead gorgeous.

My little fingers are itching to click "buy" on that Christopher Kane coat! Oh, the temptation.

I had 2 weddings in one year with my daughter & son. And, it is difficult to find the perfect outfit. And, of course, I couldn't wear the same one to both weddings. Vivienne did a lovely job with this challenge. Big hug....

I have a long time yet until I'm MOB ( my oldest is only 18) but my girls & I sometimes browse through the stores and are disturbed at the frumpy, matronly choices for MOBs. My daughter tells me, "Mom, you're not wearing anything like that when I get married!

What fun! Love the blues...

While I may be a "woman of a certain age," my kids are still young... I'm a few years off (I hope!) from being mother of the bride. But I certainly have memories of the irritations with my own mother over what she should or shouldn't wear...

Drama, drama, drama.

Looking forward to this!

So fresh and festive without being "fun".

How fortuitous!! I recently dressed a lovely MOG (wedding in two weeks). I used a warmer palette for her skin tones and golden blonde hair, but we it was indeed a gorgeous blue (actually turquoise) dress that made her blue-green eyes absolutely sparkle.

I can't wait to see the wedding pix. As usual, your sense of style is impeccable.

I'm so excited that you have chosen this topic, as I will be MOG in 2013!

I was a MOG one year ago this month and my dress is actually something like the one you show. I bought a navy knit dress from Anthropologie that had 3/4 length sleeves and beautiful draping. It was a little plunging so I wore a blue-gray lace slip underneath that added a nice touch at the front. You can see a photo of it in this post http://gracie-senseandsimplicity.blogspot.ca/2011/05/few-more-wedding-photos.html. I wore it with a cream crocheted cardigan when it was cool in the morning. I love the gorgeous coat you show, but I didn't see anything like that.
