Before I embark on today's foray into the deeply bizarre offerings on many of the fall/winter runways, let me clarify a few details up front:
1.) Yes, I know collection presentations are not called fashion "shows" for nothing.
2.) Almost every designer puts something or somethings out there which will guarantee major photo ops and prime placement in magazines, newspapers and on the Net for shock/publicity purposes.
3.) The surprises can wake-up an audience exhausted from running for weeks from collection to collection, country to country. Sometimes spice is nice.
4.) No matter how strange some of these pieces are -- and they are -- if the designer in question did not also create wearable clothes he or she would not be in business to do the weird stuff.

Oh, puh-leese, where did she find those trousers? Take the blouse and run if you are attracted to the color. If you like the pants, try looking at a Target first maybe (?) From Chloe.

Now really, does one need a designer to stitch-up a house coat? Might be trickier to find matching boots however. What a shame. From Jil Sander.

How many women do you know who want padded clothes? Or, do you blow this thing up to get the shape? Either way, what was he thinking over there at Jil Sander?

More from our "special" friend Jean-Charles Castelbajac. How adorable is the necklace around the skeleton's bony neck? Remember, it's always all about the details. . .

I'm trying to decide if I dislike them as much as I did 15 minutes ago. They're rather clever in a way, non? Not that you'd want to own them, but still. I predict we'll be seeing them on famous feet.

More please!
I've loathed those Miu Miu booties since the moment they came out of the gate -- and they're everywhere. They're so unflattering. I've tried to understand what women see in them that sets their hearts aflutter, but it hasn't worked.
xoxox
love the post!! I agree the booties are "the next great thing" for your feet if you live in LA and must follow every ridiculous fashion trend out there ;)
This post is so interesting... LoVe your blog! Have a lovely week!

Love your take on Fashion, Tish. I think the "glitter shoe" trend has already hit here big time, though not always with those monstrous heels. I'm seeing sparkle on everything from party pumps to ballet flats on the shelves here.
Ok- I Like the Skeleton! I like the line, and I think it's funky. I'd wear it with a jean jacket...definitely for Halloween, but it catches my sense of humor, and I think I'd actually buy it if I saw it in a store I could afford!
I agree ... what were they thinking and were any of them women ? lol
I like the skeleton dress for a Halloween Party !
and I also agree, that first one- makes me twitchy ~ besitos..
Great morning laugh Tish!
Nice to know even the 'big guys' get it wrong sometimes!
This was so much fun. Yes, I need padded clothes! And a breast-grabber! But you are right, of course, these designers (most of them) also make some very beautiful things : >
They've got so much going on; that's part of the problem. The glitter bootie. The ankle strap in a contrasting color, and trimmed in another contrasting color. The contrasting Carmen Miranda straps at the toe. The exaggerated Minnie Mouse curved heel. The zipper. The peep toe. I mean, that's a helluva lot of shoe.
The other part of the problem is, there's a question of taste.
Well ... I guess it's not really a "question" ....
YIKES!
Art and fashion don't always work....I think that you have proven that beyond a doubt here today.
Love your post, these photo's are just wrong on so many levels...... please post more!
The glittery shoes are almost as bad as the bulbous platforms that Lady Gaga wears all the time from Alexander McQueen (may he rest in peace) I think they were named the hippopotamus or the aardvark or something like that.
I so completely agree with you. And, yes, Daphne Guinness has worn these shoes which I think are hideous.
Yes, make it a regular feature, I love it.
Great Post. I have to say I love the Miu Miu shoes x
Yes please, more posts like this.
I've had my eye on this vogue pattern design:
http://bit.ly/qVrjoB
but now your opinion on that Jil Sander dress has me wondering.
Does the vogue dress look like a house dress?
Some googling reveals that people aren't happy with that vogue design, it does wind up looking like a house dress.
This DKNY version is more popular:

Message to Luxebytes:
I've been checking in at your blog, and I don't see any posts after April -- have you moved?
Apologies for highjacking.
I actually think the "housedress" could work in terms of shape, even though it's strange to the eye, but those flowers AND the shape are just too much.
Completely agree with you, don't really go for the shock factor with my style if I can help it. Hate the shoes although I usually love Miu Miu and Prada footwear. Love the idea of challenging this stuff, great post
What were they thinking indeed. When everyone knows that these designers provide certain outfits just for the shock value...can anyone really be shocked anymore?
Those outfits aren't even interesting...they are hideous.
I'll stick with my charcoal gray trousers and turtleneck and leave the glitter shoes to Daphne Guinness.
Absolutely more!What a great read...
Great post! I appreciate creativity but these choices were not flattering to most women. I'm already sick of the fetish look, such as the Marc Jacobs outfit. Really, it's terrible, unless one is off to a fetish party. The rest of us don't want to wear dominatrix wear out in public.
I don't like the shoes but I don't detest them, either.
Horrific! Oh mercy!
Despice these images ...
Have a pretty day!
Kristin
The skeleton reminds me of the Alexander Mc Queen scarves which are all over the place, inlcuding knock offs. I find this creepy, perhaps growing up in a culture that did not celebrate halloween accounts for that.
Love this post Tish, some eyecatching outfits

The only people more thrilled with the latest trend in stupid footwear fashions, are the orthopedic surgeons. They're making a mint on broken and sprained ankles. The poor girls who are slaves to the bizarre directives of the mentally deranged designers, are paying more to the doctors than to the fashion houses!
I love it when you comment on fashion! You are saying what I am thinking. So I would love if you made it a regular feature of your blog. Also, this is one of the few blogs where I read the entire post.
Your yellow and navy lines clothing is very nice .You are looking very good.Ladies Fashion Online
