Long, Hot Summer

To be perfectly honest, it hasn't been that hot with the exception of two days. The temperatures are sublime at the moment.

As promised, a few long dresses on the streets of Paris and our country village.

Long-ish

OK. Yes, it's true, once again some photos are new, some you may have seen. I thought, however, the subject,"longue," held together better. In the fashion biz, when we have almost nothing to say we try to "hang" a story on an invented "peg" . . .

You see the strategy/approach in magazines every month. It's sort of fun, non? Non?

It's been in the 90s here, and will remain so for quite some time. I loathe summer, I really do.

Lived in FL for 15 years before moving to England, absolutely love and miss my hot hot weather. Remember wearing little dresses all the time to keep cool. They also camoflouged a bathing suit well for those quick dips in the pull/Gulf of Mexico. The "longish" dress is right up my alley.

At the risk of directing ire, we've been having some lovely, if not quite summery weather here. (70's F). I'll keep it, thanks!

The maxi dresses are growing on me. It's taken time to break the association with my Crunchy Granola college chums of yore, but I can see where they might be a comfortable and chic alternative.

I face 100 Degree weather every day usually until late September...and we are also in a SEVERE drought! So, any other climate sounds better!! I am a Texan through and through...but do not really like summer heat at all..go figure! I always enjoy your street shots!

I love the long-ish dress.
Summer has just passed, Autumn was lovely and now Winter is here and with it, grey days and I guess my blood is thin but it is Cold !!! brrrrrr!
If only Pup could fly, we would be on our way to warm Paris or somewhere.
My daughter lives in Florida .. she would like to be in England ! lol or Belgium. She has gotten over her affection for the heat , humidity and smoke.

Love the "longish" one - looks so light and cool. Perfect for the hot and humid summers we have where I live. Hope you are well!

The photos are great, but they all seem to be on youngish women. Curious what you think of the long dress of women of a certain age?

Lovely pictures although I wouldn't wear any of the dresses. Too reminiscent of the 1960's for me.

Because I enjoy your blog and know that you don't invite controversy, I feel compelled to tell you that in yesterday's post, PIGS is not a derogatory moniker, merely a reference to Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain. Not sure if you realized that was an ACRONYM.

The woman in the long grey dress with the wavy hair is my favourite...she looks elegant and comfortable.

We have been having cooler windy days which has necessitated sweaters and jackets...am envying the heat that you are enjoying.

I loved wearing long dresses so much last summer that I have recently purchased several more to wear this summer.

I adore longer dresses, they are so chic and also cover my horribe legs!

looks OK on others but I wouldn't choose one for my (short) self. Anyone else feel that the ruched tube top style does very little for most women? they all look like they are falling down...at least, pulling *ahem* everything down.

I love the feel of a longer skirt swishing on my bare legs in the summer. Much cooler than shorts (which I never wear). But I think proportion is key, and the outfit in the top photo doesn't really work for me. Maybe if the sleeves were shorter, or the top a different color.

I do love the grey, "longish" dress.

I love the maxi length that's so popular now. It is almost too hot here to wear one. We just can't seem to get out of the triple digits and summer has barely begun. Great styles, and I would love to wear anyone. Wishing you a terrific weekend ahead. xx Deb

I just adore the red checked skirt and rather like the long-ish gray dress as well. Aside from the rain, it's been rather lovely here - hoping for good weather for the long weekend!!

I have a German friend, a stylish woman of a certain age, who wore a 'longue' dress one evening when a group of us went to see a film. As we came out, we overheard a man in a group behind us saying: 'A woman only wears a dress like that when she has bad legs.' Without even looking around or breaking her stride, my German friend reached down and grabbed her hem, and tucked the skirt into her underpants... leaving her (very good) legs on full (and naughty) view.

I'm surprised at how much I enjoy seeing these longer lengths. They're relaxed and yet still flirty.

Lovely.

Longish never left me, a tall woman. The top photo looks imbalanced, though, with the black too heavy (and I love the skirt). A longer skirt in lightweight linen is not hot.
