On The Streets of Paris

Two makeup artists in front of a M.A.C. boutique.

A bit of a struggle this time out, but I did pull through for you -- sort of. Not my best effort, I admit.

Every time someone says, "non, merci," when I propose the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to appear in this space, I lose my courage. Then I have a conversation with moi meme in which I point out that I will never see these women again, move on, and peppy comments in that vein. Fortunately I have a week to recover and forget. Oh, the drama.

Look! Two men deep in conversation. And, I know what they were talking about. They were discussing the virtues of navy blue sweaters for camouflaging tummies. Or their brioches, as the French say. (It's true.)

Trends, you're probably asking. Ballerines? Sailor T-shirts under navy blazers? Everything under the sun, literally, in both senses of the cliché. The day was sunny.

Tish, enjoyed the pix, nice to see some men of Paris too. I think your pictures are wonderful today. Noticed the gals had oversized totes. And the gals of MAC are too funny. Bon weekend, xoxo.

I don't know how you do it, I just don't have the chutzpah.

Love the older men!

I think you're amazing to take these pictures, so brave!! I get shy about taking pics of someone's house _ and that's when I've been invited to do so!!
Isn't this weather heavenly .... you and I should be meeting up for lunch on a terrace somewhere, SIGH ...

I think you did wonderfully this week. I of course adore the striped top under the blazer - addicted as I am to striped tops. And LOVED your comment about the two men!!

You are the bravest of the brave! I love the sublime old couple and the ridiculous make-up artists. Effort and result, I say!

I love all those adorable elderly French men and how they all seem to be wearing their "uniforms."

And "brioche" is now part of my vernacular for tummy. See, it's true: everything sounds better in French.

I'd be way too much of a poulet to ask anyone if I could take their picture, so you are already a thousand times more brave than I!

xoxoxo

Tish, thank you so much for putting yourself out there for us. Again, you (and your subjects) are performing a much-appreciated public service!

The MAC makeup folks often dress in a similarly theatrical way here too.

Love seeing the men too! I was so amazed at how put-together French men look (especially those over 30) and how they aren't afraid to wear a bit of color. I remember passing an older gentleman in an impeccably tailored suit in forest green wool, and it just about took my breath away.

Once again, classy looking people wandering the streets of Paris. Here, it's people in sweats and flip flops running around. How sad.

I so enjoy your pictures - so brave of you to keep on asking! I also will be adding "brioche" to my vocabulary - so much nicer than tummy!

The MAC gals are a riot!

Keep on keeping on...your street snaps are a favourite.
If all else fails...have someone take your photo instead.

The older couple on the stairs are cute.

Your devoted readers DO appreciate your efforts. I know that I would turn tail and hide if someone asked me to do this.
Love the older couple on the stairs, and the two men discussing their brioche!

Bon weekend, Tish.

Those who say "non, merci" don't know what they're missing. But I understand completely--the rejection is what forced me out of journalism before I really even got started.
I'm on a desperate search for striped T-shirts in navy and red. All I can find out here in the middle of nowhere are wishy-washy pinks and teals. Perhaps it's finally time to move to Paris! I wonder what my husband would think of that idea...

I was captivated by the picture of the older couple on the steps. I can easily imagine her as a young woman, filled with joie de vivre, riding her bicycle along a country road.

I so admire you for doing it. Do the French 'get' streetstyle? Probably not. They just take good style for granted. I wonder if 2 women in navy blue sweaters could ever be found together? ;)

I love your blog, and in particular your photos. Je suis en train d'assembler a packing list for my June trip to France and your photos are an immense help. I'm going to be spending two weeks in the countryside and then one week in Paris, so I love seeing what the "city mice" and the "country mice" wear (all are invariably chic, comme d'habitude!).
