News, Views, This, That. . .

A friend of mine, an American who has lived in Paris most of her life and is prone to dark moods and depression, explained to me at length the other day how this winter is the worst, grayest, longest, most energy sapping one she can remember.

I don't find that to be the case, in fact not at all. French Elle, it seems however, may agree with her -- or more likely, in the case of the magazine it's simply a mid-season editorial gambit: "adding some color to your neutrals."

Above: Top, top, skirt from Asos; a collection of Mulberry bags; a to die for Yves Saint Laurent dress; a dopey Top Shop blouse in mustard yellow (in case you didn't notice the color); a yummy suede jacket from Jerome Dreyfus and -- surprise, surprise -- Repetto ballerines.

The fashion people seem hung-up on various tones of yellow from the, what I consider very difficult mustard family to brighter versions all the while avoiding outright lemon. On offer was an inexpensive yellow pencil skirt paired with a black sweater and black opaque tights -- very cute I think and on the right woman ageless. The best part of this combo was the fact the yellow was a torso length away from the face where, in my opinion, in most cases is exactly where yellow belongs.

Balenciaga bag.

I have, btw, changed my opinion about yellow bags. I think you've convinced me, although I'm not presently in the market for one.

Other News. . .

My lavender, microwaveable replacement Teddy was delivered on Saturday. It's true, he must be a cousin of the late Ted because they don't look like twins.

FYI, I have ordered two (yes TWO!) Teddy Bears for the giveaway. For those who have not told me if you would like to participate, please tell me now.

My cough medicine is making me hallucinate. It's sort of pleasantly unpleasant. (Thought I would mention this in case what I'm saying makes no sense.)

Off to Paris. . . A demain.

Sorry about your cold!

Have I said I'd be thrilled to win a Lavender Teddy? He WOULD have been a great comfort during my shingles episode...but BELIEVE me, I'm not wishing them back!

I kind of agree with the American in Paris. I has seemed to me to be the longest January in my 62 years. I'll shed no tears for it tomorrow!

A *skirt* in yellow! Now there's an idea. Any closer to my face and I'd likely be rushed to the nearest urgence for treatment of une crise de foie!

Enjoy the cough meds! And count me in for adopting one of Teddy's (may he rest in peace) 'other' cousins.

(I'm finding winter to be dragging here in the south, too. Not particularly cold and miserable as winters go, just too long for me this year...putting me squarely in the 'winter wuss' department.)

I don't need a lav Ted, but are you going to give him a different name? I vote for Aloysius (from Brideshead Revisited).

Agree on mustard color, blouses were pretty styles. The inevitable Repettos on your posting make me envious. Still a problem to find them and the styles you post must be one of a kinds because they are always sold out online; or the company manufactures two in each size - just kidding.
Welcome to Teddy II. xoxo, C.

Your winter is my summer and it is dragging out a very long tedious time too !
It is just as difficult to have to stay inside so much because of high temperatures and humidity as it is the cold. Especially in a place where a/c is not to be counted on everywhere.
I love the yellow blouse ! How pretty and feminine it is !
I had a very long cough/sore throat illness a couple of months ago and found that of all things! Halls Mentholyptus drops kept the dry hacking cough away.. plus just kept my throat soothed.
If I had a Teddy, I have a feeling that Pup would end up sleeping with it. That dog loves stuffed toys ! :)
Feel better, warm weather will be there soon. un beso ! C

That particular yellow of the blouse is so beyond dreary. Could anyone possibly look good in it, I wonder?

Sorry to hear about the hallucinations with your cough meds. I have been on percocet for five days now and have just been sleepy. I get my splints removed in two hours and am as overjoyed as a girl on opiates can be.

Hang in there.

I wouldn't mind enter the Teddy drawing ....

Get well soon, Tish!

I'm wearing a black wool dress with black boots today. So much for the pop of color (a string of big silver Navajo beads is providing a flash of light, but I don't know if that's the same thing).

Even so, my duds today are an act of rebellion, because it's 20F outside and I'm wearing a dress. And my enormous red down coat. It's a little airy around the knees, but I needed a change from pants, pants, pants.

The first time I was in Paris was in 1972 and I was 20 years old. Every girl/woman wore bright yellow shoes with their very neutral, dark clothing. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. It made even the dullest outfit so chic!!!
I love the Teddy Bear. Would LOVE to have one. Lavender is so soothing and I think his face is adorable.
Would knit him yellow booties!!

Your comments are very sensible, Tish--not at all hallucinatory. Color is a boon this time of year, in gray weather.

Mustardy yellow is one color that I wear often near my face & reliably get compliments on. Black only makes me look tired and wan. I do have a pair of yellow tights but every time I wear them, I feel like a cartoon character so they never make it out of the house.

Your friend might benefit from the book "A Complaint Free World" (Will Bowen) which completely changed my proclivity to moan about weather. A bright bag might help and what's between the ears is even better than what's on the arm.

I would love a lavender teddy bear! Lavender makes me happy happy happy.

I don't know about the mustard colors; I guess it would be a good accent but not a whole shirt. I can't imagine it looks good next to anyone's face--but I could be wrong.

I hope not too dreary. You'll have to let us know the name of the cough syrup, I could do with a halucination or two.

Last week I told you about how I gave my daughter a Teddy. She loves it so much that I'd like one too. Please put my name in the hat!

Would love to win Ted! After a winter of stomach flu, pneumonia, 60.3" of snow and another 20" in the next 2 days, I would gladly give Ted a good home! :-)

I am clearly in mid-winter bleagh, as all those colors you've posted made me want to run out and shop.

Please! SIgn my up for the teddy. It's so adorable. If I don't happen to be blessed with the good luck to win, I shall just outright purchase one. I can think of nothing more heavenly that snuggling with a lavendar scent wafting around my head.
Enjoy your blog and your glorious fashion choices. Keep up the good work.

I would put French Lavendar Teddy beside my London Harrod's bear.
Love how you transport us to France through your blogs. This time of year, Indian Rocks Beach Florida is the place to be. White sandy beach, azure waters and beautiful Beach Trail
