Shoes News and Lunch

Many of you have asked me to talk about shoes -- comfortable shoes, no wobbly wedges, scary stilettos or bulky boots.  I understand. I'm assuming we have similar desires: charming, comfortable, "cutting edge" chaussures. And why not, particularly if some of the latest models allow us to look hip without breaking a hip.

This fall no one should be falling off her shoes.

I'm not late knowing about them, I mean fashion is my life after all, I'm just late talking about them: kitten heels. They are everywhere from the runways to les rues, already crossing every price point. I noticed Target has a pair in leopard -- are you paying attention Pseu?

Some women hate them, believing they are an unattractive compromise.

Personally, I like them. They give the leg a little lift, a nice curve to the calf. It's been years since I've teetered on towering talons, actually I was quite adept at the balancing act, but those days are long over. (I still fancy them btw -- on other women.)

I like my moccasins, ballerinas and my kittens. As you can see in the moccasin versions, "kitten" does not necessarily mean delicate and sometimes the heels are not as low as they once were.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama love them, as did Audrey Hepburn.

My extraordinary shoe man changed an old pair of Chanel kitten heels from brown and black to dark gray and black. Shopping in my closet again, such fun.

If you are buying into the "Mad Men" mania hot off the runways, kitten heels offer the best balance for the look -- literally and figuratively.

I'm Off. . .

I'm running out the door to meet friends from New York for lunch at the Café Marly. I told them about the restaurant a year ago -- if you haven't been there, the terrace offers a view right through I.M. Pei's pyramid to the Louvre -- and now they want to go back. I think part of the reason is because it's unspeakably trendy and when we were there last time we saw Mary McFadden and Meg Ryan. Since it's chilly today and rain is forecast, I suppose we will be inside, thus an interior shot for your perusal.

Maybe, just maybe I will see about taking pictures.

Ed. Note: Upon my return I'll give you the shoe details.

A tout-à-l'heure.

WELL! It looks as if we are on the same wavelength here; I will be posting on BOOTS next week! I love all of these wonderful shoes dear, especially those last ones of the "slingbacks", hmmmmm...I don't know if anyone calls them that anymore!

ENJOY A FABULOUS WEEK WITH YOUR AMOUR in that marvelous adopted country of yours, Anita

Yes! kitten heels are flattering~
a few years back I had a pair of shoes with a "louis" heel which were my very favourite for comfort + class, Obviously not in fashion now.
Enjoy your visit to Cafe Marly sounds superbe!

I'm a new follower of A Femme d'Un Certain Age and love your photos and insights. I am a fan of kitten heels. Rather than teetering on stilettos, I can stride along at a nice pace. Ease with style. I like that.

Up to date shoes lift even the sadest outfit; though kitten heels don't really suit the village lanes where ( particularly at the moment) my wellies are essential!

I have never owned kitten heels. I guess i have always gone for extremes, the ballerina flat, biker boots flat to high heels, platform, stilettos and high heel boots....just got a fabulous pair at the Bon Marche....you have opened my eyes to a new life of no misery pass 8pm....misery for my feet that is. cafe Marly is one of my favorite spot when in paris in september...love people watching
Have a great week..

I enjoy the pictures, though I don´t like kitten heels. Somehow, a shoe looks unbalanced with a kitten heel. But this is only my very personal opinion.

Café Marly is my favorite place to lunch in Paris. Just ate there in August with my children - it was a cool and rainy day, but we still enjoyed our lunch on the terrace. Viewed through the misty rain, the colorful line of umbrellas snaking around the entrace to the Louvre looked like something from an impressionist painting. Thank you for your wondeful column and your "street" photos, which always take me right back to the city that j'adore!

Have just taken a note of Cafe Marly, we're headed to Paris in December and I want to cram in as much as possible. I have a terrible habit of not leaving hotels!

I read an article recently--either in Vogue or InStyle--about the resurgent popularity of kitten heels, and I applauded! I love the way very high heels look, but standing or walking on them for any length of time is sheer torture.

Love your blog!

I like kitten heels as they are much more comfortable for me to walk in.
I feel like I'll topple over in 4 inch heels!
These examples show that there are a pair for every taste...I love the sling backs.

Ah, we enjoyed lunch there on one of our visits.

I'm in favor of the kitten heel, especially the blockier ones. Looking forward to seeing the details on these.

Love the shoes! I hate high heels, and my man thanks me profusely for not wearing them and having nice feet! I am going to buy a cute pair of black boots, however--but nothing with a pointy heel.

I love a kitten heel with a pencil skirt or with slacks.

I want the green ones!

Hope you had fun.

I feel like fashion has just been manic about sky-high heels and I am so relieved to see kitten heels- or ANY low heel- being touted as fashionable. Hallelujah!

I still haven't managed to find the perfect pair of flats and now we're on to another style already!

I'm not sure how I feel about kitten heels, but some of your example shoes were very cute.

Do I give up my quest for flats and shift to kittens? I'm not so much into the Madman look, so perhaps not. However, I never say never, so I await more information.

I love kitten heels and are looking to buy more this year. Who made the 2nd shoe in you post, the gray one with the bow?
