Red On. . .

Let's remember there is red and there is red. It's sort of like there's gray and there's gray, although there is only one camel. However there are many beiges, taupes, ecrus and so forth, but they're not camel.

I'll give you a minute to absorb that intellectually profound observation.

Now, moving right along. . . For those of us who want a little dab of red -- and of course we're talking the red of your choice, rosy, orange-y, red-red -- here are a few dabbling options which will not only add zest to the rest, but are also investment pieces. You can wear a red scarf and red shoes the rest of your life and you'll never have to put a red bag on the top shelf until what goes round comes round again and again.

From the top: The iconic Hermes Kelly bag (yes, I know,); cashmere shawl; men's silk vest from tuxedosonline; Lancel's, lots going on sac; fun Mellow Yellow mocassins; sober Minelli loafers (OK, for those of you fashion fanatics out there, I suppose we would call these "ox blood" -- am I right(?); belts, wide and narrow, from Isabel Marant; evening clutch and bizarre molded shoes from Armani; sparkly gloves and clutch from Givanchy; long red leather gloves, Givenchy again; Repetto ballerines and two versions of the classic buckle motif shoes from Roger Vivier.

See? Lots of choices in the fun-filled world of fashion. And remember, if you're like me, just a dab will do it.

I love the red suede cummerbund, I have to be in the right mood to wear red, maybe twice a year I break out a red dress then feel exhausted by it for the next two weeks.

Such gorgeous red finds! Love the Hermes bag (reminds me of the one in "Le Divorce"), as well as the shoes and that fabulous belt (love the silver bracelets the model is sporting as well). Such a great color!

I love the red scarf. It reminds me of Christmas shopping on cold december days.

I wore red lipstick the other day and people truly do treat you differently. I think it just looks so put together, like an instant Hitchcock heroine.

Just wanted to say that I love your blog, I learn so much-- gives me quite the advantage over my fellow 20-somethings!

I was always told that redheads should avoid red, which I have never done and do not plan to do anytime soon. Redheads look terrific in red.

There's a perfect shade out there for everyone.

Alas, my Kelly bag is black. "Tant pis." The red is so gorgeous.

Every time I read your posts I end up salivating over the pieces you display. I have learned to review your post with a budget minded and discerning eye but your taste is awesome and I find myself wondering how I can afford this piece or that. Now I look for less expensive versions and have truly found some great knock-offs.

Is that a Lancel bag? It is a Lancel bag, isn't it? Le sigh.

A spot of red is excellent and chic. Too much red in one given ensemble can be overpowering...

Ah, the Kelly bag in red. It doesn't get any better than that. I agree with JMW; the Hermes bag reminds me of Le Divorce. What a great read.

I enjoy a little red in my life, but only a dash here and there.
