Fall Freebies!!!! Part I

While whipping through a recent French Elle I discovered a feature hedlined: Les 20 Details Qui Font Le Chic. You can imagine my excitement, particularly when I realized the majority of suggestions everyone of us already owns! All we have to do is re-think, re-mix or re-steal (you'll see) the components.

Since I didn't agree with some of the suggestions, fashion is my passion after all, I'm only telling you about the ones I do like. Huge rings on every green polished fingernail for example doesn't coincide with my definition of chic and even though we're supposed to be wearing ankle socks with our heels -- kitten or otherwise -- I'm sorry, I just can't go there.

Have included the belted coat which in principle I like, but that poor model with her bare legs makes me shiver in pity. She needs boots, heavy tights -- I don't know, something --  a nice, warm meal perhaps.

And the freebies, which basically always distill down to details, details, details, are:

1. Mono-chromatics, head to toe. You choose your color.

2. The previously mentioned belted coat.

3. A stick pin closing the collar of a shirt.

4. The contradiction of a denim shirt with rhinestone earrings and necklace. I don't think I'm on board with this one. I think it has an age limit. Maybe pearls?

5. Oh, I just love this one: a turtleneck sweater under a classic coat. I wonder what fashion genius came up with that one.

6. A twin-set, not with a single strand of pearls this time, but a veritable bib. OK.

Ed. Note: The sources for yesterday's shoes news, from the top: Gaspard Yurkievich with the pom-pom; Unisa, pale gray suede; Repetto, green suede; Lise Lidnvig, red moc; Mellow Yellow with the bow; Sessun, tan moc; Top Shop, red patent sling-back and L.K. Bennett, two-toned sling.

Part II demain.

Oh I agree, those legs just don't go with the belted coat. Pity as I quite fancy the coat. Diane

I always do coat and bare legs in the evening but never during daylight.

i love kitten heels. to my eye they look better than tall stilettos. i think it is b/c the woman wearing them looks and walks so much more naturally in them. women standing still in stilettos is fine but watching them walk is another story. and i think pearls and denim shirts look amazing.

The rhinestone jewelry on the denim shirt just screams "80's!" to me. I think I'll stick with my monochrome, and probably skip the belted coats as much as I like that look, as they make me look like a sack of potatoes cinched around the middle.

#4 also has a time limit. This 1980's throw-back should get thrown back in the heap! Sorry, just because our pocketbooks get smaller, doesn't mean our shoulder pads and earrings need to get larger! Love your take on fashion!

What I love about all theses looks is that each piece is "right". The turtle neck sweater is sheer just below the turtle neck, the pants are skinny, the coat is straight but soft. The color mix is new. The total look is great but there again the sweaters are the "right" ones( for now, I mean) one is soft and flattering the other tight and allows no flaw, but both are very now-the soft one is more adaptable to all figures of course.
I do agree that socks with heels is for 20yrs. olds- max- and that over sized diamonds on jean need to be worn by someone young and very classy looking- otherwise, hello Las Vegas! By the way I LOVE large rings...Great post Letitia as usual. What a great synthesis.

I agree with the paerls and denim and I am salivating over a strand with very large pearls...
I am on board with Janet's comments about the kitten heels...stilettos make me wobble and I fear of toppling over!
Monotones hurray...
sox with kittens...never!
I say boots!

I love the one color head to toe. For short sturdy girls like myself, I think that the one color rule makes us appear taller and thinner.
And I'm going to go way out here and declare that I love the socks with heels. Yes I know it is juvenile, but it just looks so comfortable.

I am SO with you on the ankle socks. Frankly, I don't even care for the look on young women.

I'm finding I agree with you on just about everything!

OH I agree with the pearls and denim...the first photo with those multi-strains of pearls is THE BEST at any age! Sock with heels...no. In high school and in the 80s, maybe. But chic is an understated beauty and comes from within the woman...I LOVE YOUR CHOICES DEAREST! Commen ca va? Anita

Dear God - someone feed a few of these femmes some foie gras. However lovely the clothing, the rail thin figures are painful to look at, by any country's standards.

Socks with heels doesn't say "chic" to me. It says "crazy cat lady in training."

Nice clothes. On the denim I can see wearing the look in Arizona, Colorado or any "western state." Love that look. Out there, I don't think an age limit would apply. Will forego the belted coat too as DP wrote above.

On yesterday's kitten heels, Tish, I would need some kind of baptismal conversion to wear them. I still like my 3-4 inchers and my mocs (love a burnished black pair from Ugg) and my Repettos.

Now I am coveting a bib of pearls and a perfect camel twin set to wear with the sleeves pushed up perfectly to a perfect length. I'm not coveting a perfect helmet lid, however.
