News, Views & La Rentrée

Before we plunge in, I would like to freely admit (confess?) that what follows is documented proof of my arrested development.

First, autumn is my favorite season. Agreed, that doesn't qualify as abnormal -- I'm simply setting the stage, offering context, background, you get the idea.

Second, September to me means back-to-school! And, September is right around the corner.

This is where it gets a little wacky. For me, fall continues to be symbolic of new clothes and supplies for the scholastic year although I don't really yearn to sit in a classroom. I do, however yearn for school supplies.

This is what I want, heading into those crisp, promising days ahead:

1.) A new camel hair polo coat similar to this one from Brooks Brothers only maybe a bit longer if possible. (As I explained previously, the last one I had was in college; the one before in high school. Both were double-breasted, I think single will do nicely this time around.)

2.) Either these Chanel or those from Roger Vivier. Both pick up the fall camel vibe and I'm pretty well covered in the other details. Yes, Pseu, it's true, I'm meekly poaching in your territory.

3.) Spanking new classroom (OK, home desk, purse, next-to-the-bed) accessories. I am wildly mad about anything from Ben. I need a stylo case for all my colored pens and pencils -- which I love beyond reason -- and perhaps another one for my makeup because I like what both of them say.

Also on my list are some new notebooks, a fresh agenda which you will notice starts in September not in January -- completely normal as far as I'm concerned -- and a bunch of new pens in a rainbow of ink colors.

I'm so excited. I'll be the first person ready to roll into the new year or la rentrée, as the French say.

I hope you don't think I'm joking.

I feel exactly the same about autumn, it's always a new beginning for me, then when winter hits I hole up indoors till March. I love the notebooks and pencil cases.

What is it that Tom Hanks says in 'You Have email'? "I'd like to offer you a bouquet of freshly sharpened crayons!!" Yes, I think that fresh school supplies does it for us all, there's something about turning a page, getting of to a fresh start, girding oneself with loads of good intentions. Love it!

Fall has always been my favorite time of year as well, and has felt like a time of fresh starts much more than the traditional New Years.

J'adore my Ben notebook. Merci encore.

You won't be sorry with either of those shoes. They go with *everything.*

Going back to school at un certain age is actually something many people do.

Mine? French!

We are definitely on the same page! I love this time of year, everything seems so new and fresh and by the end of august, I am so ready for cooler temps! I thought I was the only adult over 40 with a pencil case to hold my goodies!

I have a camel hair coat just like it and it's something I adore! Gotta love that coat with a pair of high-heeled boots.

You are truly a woman after my own heart. Those crisp autumn days mean warm wooly sweaters and soft furry kitties curled up in my lap. The yummy smell of new school supplies! I'm not tooo old to remember.

And did I mention warm armagnacs by the fire with that special someone?

It's still over 100 degrees in Louisiana, so I can't relate to the coat today, but the school supplies! LOVE them! I pleaded with my 14-year-old to choose the black and white notebook and matching folder yesterday, but alas, they did not suit her needs. I cannot believe such restraint AND that she is mine! (It was a geometric print with an interior cover of chartreuse!)Maybe I will go back for it after I drop her off at dance today!
