You'll never believe this. . .
So, I'm out cruising les rues de Paris (as promised) and who did I spot buying her newspaper at the kiosk on the Place Victor Hugo?
Tom and his mistress.
We both burst out laughing. (You may recall she was at the top of last week's on-the-street feature.) Again she looked unspeakably chic in that only in Paris nonchalant elegant way. Take a peek at her sac, when one owns an Hermes in a plummy mauve, one can only assume there are more where that came from.
You know I like to keep you au courant about the good, the bad and the ugly encounters I have. Wednesday was one of the worst. I approached two very attractive women (both in skirts!), proffered my stunning card (previously described to you), spieled my spiel and the two of them looked at me as if I were asking for money and did a back-off sort of movement thrusting the cards in my direction. They didn't even give me a compliment. Normally, when women want to get away fast they toss off a throwaway line to make me feel better. Not these two.
Then along came the two friends pictured above. Charming to the point where I wanted to spend the rest of the afternoon with them. (Please note other status bag, Dior this time.) They were great fun and made up for the others.
The first four photos are from Paris, the final five from the country. These days when women see me in the village near ours they strike a pose and ask in which direction I would like them to walk. I think my big mistake in Paris is to spend too much time in the 16th arrondissement. I've had excellent luck in the First, the Eighth and the Seventh.
Before I forget: Ballerinas everywhere in all colors with a slight penchant toward taupes, beiges, black patent, lime, hot pink, silver, copper and the ever stylish two tone numbers either a la Chanel or the real deal.
P.S.: Bitsy, I swear I lost your picture last week. It has happened before. Your American friend in the red trousers was a big hit and I'm certain everyone would have loved to have seen you as well. To answer your question, yes, by all means send me your picture from Skaneateles, N.Y., I promise to include it in a post. (Did you make up that name? I'm from New York state and have never heard of it.) Leave me a message and I'll give you my e-mail address.
